Property Addressing Request

Use this service to request the assignment of a new address or verification of an existing address. All assignments are strictly governed by the Unified Development Code (UDC) to ensure accurate emergency response and efficient city services.

Important Objective: Proper addressing is critical for the protection of lives and property. Assignments are based on a citywide sequential system and not on personal preference or developer request.

Unified Development Code (UDC) Standards

All requests are administered by the Addressing Administrator in compliance with Article E, Section 1.04 of the UDC. Key regulatory standards include:

  1. Street Naming Criteria:
    • Must not duplicate or phonetically resemble existing names (to prevent confusion).
    • Maximum of two words and 15 characters (excluding the suffix).
    • No directional prefixes (e.g., "North Main") unless crossing a major divider like Judson Rd or the railroad tracks.
    • Must be easy to spell and pronounce; no special characters or initials allowed.
  2. Address Numbering Logic:
Assignments follow a specific grid system to ensure sequence:
    • Odd Numbers: Assigned to the North and West sides of the street.
    • Even Numbers: Assigned to the South and East sides of the street.
    • Sequence: Numbers must comport with the pattern of the immediate area. Fractions (1/2) and hyphens (1-A) are prohibited.
  3. Multi-Unit & Complex Standards:
    • Buildings: Numbered consecutively (1, 2, 3...) starting at the main entrance and moving in a counter-clockwise spiral.
    • Units: Must follow specific digit logic (e.g., 1st floor = 101-199). Interior corridor units are assigned even/odd numbers on opposing sides of the hallway.
